Unfortunately, once the dirt settled, there were many low spots which resulted in mud puddles whenever it rained. The garden wasn't bad, but it could have been much better. This past Christmas, April and I decided to give them a garden. Now that the weather is nice (finally), it's time for us to deliver.
The first step is to get some more dirt!
We plan to build raised beds within the garden, but first we need to add dirt to the base and level it off. We got compost from the City of Lorain, which turned out to be pretty good dirt. Marty picked up 2 cubic yards in his truck, and I went over last week and shoveled it into the garden. It only took me about an hour, and the result was a pretty good base of rich soil. Our plan for the next step is to use a rototiller to mix in the compost with the layer of topsoil that was put down last year and even out the entire base to eliminate low spots.
The problem is, the topsoil has been so wet that it would clog the rototiller with mud. So, we've been waiting for a few dry days in a row — and this looks like the week! It hasn't rained since Saturday, and it isn't supposed to rain all week.

Friday, we plan to go over there and execute step two. After that, we'll begin building the beds, which we'll fill with even more of the compost — it's such rich soil, April and I had another 10 cubic yards delivered.
